tdc timing marks ?
« on: 06 August 2010, 19:04 »
After taking off my rocker cover, thinking the gasket was knackered turns out it isnt, just the oil hadn't been cleaned off.  I was reading section 2D.3 in the haynes manual and noticed it said the "TDC timing marks in alignment on camshaft drive chain sprockets"

anyhow, i noticed my where not in alignment as i could only see one mark ( looks like an o marked on the sprocket) how do i manually turn these and how would i get tghem aligned together, could only find timing for the gearbox tdc mark, or am i being stupid and if the tdc mark in the gearbox is right then that will auto correct the sprocket timing marks???

Also after being told i had after market cams ive found that they have the vw audi logo on them and the part number is i think. 027 457

IIRC the gearbox diamond mark is TDC.

Make sure its not 180 degreee off though

ok, ill go have a look at the gearbox tdc marking then, if the timings right then should all of the timing marks be spot on.

gearbox diamond timing mark is 6deg BTDC for the ignition timing, the static timing TDC mark is the small punch mark on the flywheel.

The timing marks on the 16v sprockets should be pointing at each other when the engine is at TDC:
