Hot top pipe,cold bottom....lol
« on: 06 August 2010, 09:11 »
Hi guy's feel a bit daft as this has probably been asked b4 but the thing is I have just replaced my engine, like for like,1.8 carb driver.Have also replaced carb for a weber. After I had changed it & plugged everything in it took me a while to get started, once primed it started but was very lumpy, sorted timing enough for the car to run, filled rad with water, left off cap to release any air locks, but what I found was that the top rad hose got VERY hot but bottom pipe stayed cold & felt quite empty,to cut a long story short I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas b4 I go changing the water pump.

Cheers
Joe

Change the thermostat or test it first. Take it out of the engine and chuck it in a bowl of boiling water to see if it opens. This should cure it.

Right guy's I am so close I can taste it,have changed the thermostat, ran the car with the heaters on left the expansion tank lid off for a bit, then replaced but for some reason I am still getting a very hot top pipe & hot bottom pipe but the pressure & heat are still building up so much that its hard to squeeze the pipes let alone touch them, were are all the usual airlock areas to look for,any help appreciated.

Thanks
Joe
