Air con Compressor
« on: 20 July 2010, 17:44 »
Recently purchased my first MK5 Golf gti  05 and have straight away run into air con issues - after only owning the car for six weeks air conditioning packed up in true style on the hottest day of the year.

Took it to VW garage who diagnosed the problem being a digital air pressure sensor switch, spoke to a air con specialist who said he will be able to replace it for £110 including parts + labour  and considering VW wanted to charge £290 for it I parted with £110 and was expecting freezing cold air blowing my way after the replacement.

Unfortuantely the guy who replaced the sensor said he believes it is sensor and compressor and changing the sensor and re-doing the gas did not work.

Now I have been back to VW to say they diagnosed the issue incorrectly and they dont want to help or return my calls.

So logically I have started to look around for a replacement air compressor and they seem to range from £85 - £335 and reading through various forums some seem to suggest not to buy VW compressors as they have an inherent issue with them and to go for other makes.

So help please what's the best way forward here.....

I would seek the advice of another specialist to confirm 100% the compressor has failed.

just had mine in, compressor changed 10 months ago under warrenty, now not working!

vw had it the other week & sed compressor knackered again!! car isnt under warrenty anymore but as they changed it 10 months ago ive got them to sort it properly this time!!

the aircon in the gti seems to be joke in my experience & by the amount of ppl who have had problems.

Mines currently taking about 10 minutes to kick in - dealer suggests this is normal but it's the only car I've ever had which takes more than a few seconds, just wondering if the compressor might be the culprit here too

Sould be a lot quicker than that, I would think you have a pressure switch at fault.
