another aircon question
« on: 17 June 2010, 14:25 »

Following on from my fan not working, now it is situation ... how long does the aircon normally take to start blowing cool air through the system. Obviously when it's warm and the car has been stood it's going to take a little while for the aircon to have some effect, mine is currently taking 5/10 minutes even when moving, after this though it blows cold continously.

Reason I ask is that the dealer recommended a re-gas and I'm wondering if this will make things cool down that bit quicker or whether its a normal situation anyway - the car's only 18months old so seems a bit early to need a re-gas

 thanks

 Simon

Apart from leakage over time, sometimes the car doesn't get its full quota of refridgerant from the factory.

It should feel cool almost straight away and then chilled after a minute.

Just a warning, I got told by VW Beadles which is in Dartford, that a re-gas costs £85 so if you do decide to get a re-gas then all I suggest is shop around and try the independent garages that do air con servicing.

Failing that the reviews seam pretty good for this stuff

Thanks for the replies....I've booked it in at the dealer for the re-gas, £59 all in, hopefully this will sort things out

Damn £59 is a good price, sucks for me living in the Greater London area where everything is more expensive!

 Just an update on this...

Car went in last week for Aircon service and certainly seems better - still a delay to it kicking in (a couple of minutes) but nothing like before - ultimate test will be when the weather gets back to previous temperatures though, aircon isn't having to work quite so hard this week
