Removing rocker cover
« on: 06 July 2010, 01:09 »
Right, here is a little how to...

First things first... make a freaking list of what you have taken off and where from as you go along

then get yer plug leads out of the way (but remember the firing order!) i shoved them down the site of the car in order

then, undo the front 5 bolts that connect the overflow intake manifold to the separate section of intake that connects to the block and take note that the far right bolt is also the bolt that holds the isv mount in place

next undo these two bolts at the rear, just above where my turbo is and where your exhaust manifold is

next dissconnect the piping from the throttle body

and then unplug this little switch that sits under the throttle body

then dissconect this doofler (somone please inform me of what it does for an edit  )

now grab the intake at the back and lift up to clear the rear bracket (remember the two bolts above the manifold) and then push towards the windscreen to slide it of the lower threads (the five bolts)

now to begin removing the rocker cover, well i didnt even bother taking any photos its that simple, just remove the 6 bolts around the edge and the two in the middle, you will need to lift the rocker from the right and then tug it right to get it off so it clears the dizzy bracket and slots out of the cambelt cover. you will now have this

check whatever you wanna check and reverse what you did to pull it all apart, to put the rocker back on just do it like you would a wheel, and work your way around and around doing opposite bolts until its all pucka (10nm apparently) and TICK OFF YOUR LIST AS YOU GO ALONG!

care to explain? I will quite happily throw it in the bin if it does nothing!?

Would this valve possibly be the cause of my car running slightly lean at top end?

Good write up.

I always mean to take more photo's.

I think it's defo handy having seperate tubs for the various bolts and lable them accordingly.

Got a top tip from Ed China, push your bolts through a bit of card, then tape them on labeling as you go, saves soooo much time in the long run.

Now I'm off to go and do something useful....

so i can just remove it and join the two pipes together?

And as for a good write up, i cant recall a haynes manual refering to parts as 'dooflers'

if you look at zee pipe on the inlet, undo it from there and undo the other clip from the back of the ecotec valve, remove short section of rubber pipe and valve. connect rubber L bit on servo pipe directly to inlet as per factory. at least when it was installed they didnt cut the original hose or anything :)
