Hi
I know a water leak could be from a lot of places, but what would be the most likely place on a 1999 1.8T GTi with 130k .

Check the black coolant housing at the side of the head/block (passenger side). Mine leaked from this all down the side and all over the gearbox. Think it may have been leaking for a while then went big time. Just like this:
