Insurance claim
« on: 05 July 2010, 20:18 »
Well 1 evening on friday coming home from work, some guy hit into my back whilst i was stuck in traffic. Just a little ding nothing major. We exchanged details and away we go. So i have been busy over the weekend and have not made time to contact my insurance company. ( VW free 7day cover)

He has since admited liability and his insurance company has got in contact with me ( although i have made no contact with mine in regards to this ).

They have said they will do all the repair works etc and courtesy car the whole shabang.

I have never been in accident and dont know how this works. Is this normal procedures for that guys insurance company to contact me  and admit liability and do all the work? Has anyone ever done it like this way if not?

Any information on this would be helpful. Thanks!

Nowadays, insurers ask that no liability is ever admitted by the roadside - let the companies earn their cash and sort it out on your behalf.

Obviously, your incident was minor and you were stationary, so it would be pointless for him not to accept all liability.

If he, or his insurer, directly contacts you again, I would refer him/them to your insurer.

Words of warning though:-
a) Get in touch with your insurer asap to get them up to speed, I know you were busy, but nearly 4 days to report an (albeit minor) accident is a long time.
b) Check if there is a potential excess to pay on your policy, and
c) If you DO have to pay an excess up front, will you get it back since you are 0% to blame.
