another mk3 gti engine problem
« on: 08 June 2010, 10:23 »
hi, i was wondering if someone might have an idea about my cars misbehaving engine.
Problem is that if i give it abit of right foot it starts stalling when i stop at a junction or roundabout engine note changes mpg goes down holding a consant speed is hard as car stats being really jerky, but if i leave it running at idle it will sort itself out after five mins or so.
I've changed ignition system oil etc so am now at a blank any help, not advice to scrap said mk3, would be much appiciated

Try doing a search in the Maintenance section Mate. But my idea would be to clean the throttle body out. Take it off the car which is four allen key bolts and four pipes and the throttle cable and one connector. Then clean inside the throttle body and around the butterfly with either carb cleaner or wd40 and an old toothbrush. Get it looking sparkly clean inside. Then just put it back onto car. Then put key in ignition and turn to position 2 and listen and you will hear a buzzing type of sound. When this has finished start her up and all should be better again. Takes about an hour total to do and will make it tick over better, should stop the cutting out and mpg should increase. It's a regular job on the Mark 3 Mate.
