Headlights disassembling
« on: 03 December 2004, 19:05 »
Hi guys,

I'm (finally!) replacing my LHD headlights with some UK spec ones - got the new pair in today.

Excuse the ignorance, but I've been told that to replace them I will have to lower the bumper. I guess I'm just looking for the quick, yet cheaper, way out and I will be attempting to do this myself this weekend. How else can you learn?

Are there any good resources out there on how to dismantle the bumper/headlights? I have a PD150.

TIA,

fck

Removing the bumper is easy.
Lift the bonnet, pull the grill up (it just unclips) and move it out of the way. Youl'll then see the first two bolts, undo them.
Unscrew the wheel arch mud guards on either side.
Pull out the plastic vents at the sides of the bumper to reveal the final two bolts.
Bumper then slides off, just be careful you dont rip the wires out of the sensor that's attached to the bumper.
Then you have easy access to the lights. Hope that helps.

ok I'm making progress.  I've lowered the bumper and removed the existing headlamp casing.  I've just realised that the headlamps have a motor to adjust the height level.  The replacement kit seems to have a space and hole for the motor but I'm having problems removing the motor from the original casing.

Any idea if this possible or do I need to get a replacement motor too?

Thanks in advance.

...and two hours later the answer is, no, the existing motor does indeed come out of the factory headlights and fit the replacement ones just right.

toph, thanks very much for your help. Job done. Just one addition: it's 3 screws below the grill, not two! But everything else was just as described.

cheers m8!
