I need some help with my GTI please
« on: 28 May 2010, 09:04 »
Hallo all.

The car: 2005 Golf 5 GTI DSG with 84 000km on the clock.

Recently I found the car to idle a bit higher than usual. This is mostly when the car is nice and warm. In Park the idle will climb from 850 rpm to 1100 rpm. Sometimes the idle speed will rise to 1400rpm, before the ecu steps in and drops the rpm to idle speed. Immediately afterwards the rpm will start rising again. It is also idling higher when in drive, around 1000 rpm.

At this point I must state that my car has quite a clatter from the engine once warm. This apparently is a common problem with the camshaft/ camlobe/ lifter being the culprit.

On the diagnostics, the car gives an error code.
One is " Running lean on idle - Bank 1". The other is "intermittent idle fluctuation" or something like that.

From your experience, will the replacement of the camshaft and lifter solve this problem?

I also get an indication from the diagnostics that indicate an airleak.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you

Was reading on an Audi forum about a similar issue last week... Have you checked the coil packs?

Whilst the car is at idle unplug each on separately and see if there is a difference?

I think thats what they did...
