paste / glue on rim?
« on: 10 May 2010, 09:57 »
I have some kind of glue or tyre paste on my rim and I have no idea how I can remove it, so far I have used:

Chemical Guy's Extreme Orange Degreaser
and a similar product for wheels only

None of these have really shifted it, it does come off but it's so stubborn and even after like 30 mins only a tiny bit has come off. Not sure what other approach I can take, I was thinking of maybe getting a heatgun and slightly heating it up to try and loosen it.

I don't want to use any really strong chemicals that will damamage the paint nor any abrasive materials like sand paper to shift it as that will damamage it also.

Any ideas?  :undecided:

Is it a brand new car? Sometimes new cars have barcode labels on the alloys out of the factory which are not removed properly at PDI. How about posting a photo?

If it's a sticky label residue then you need something like a tar & glue remover product such as Autosmart Tardis. If you don't have any thing like that you can use a bit of petrol or white spirit on a rag and rub it over the residue until it comes off. Once removed, rinse the area down with your normal wash shampoo and some water.

Bear in mind that anything that removes sticky residue will also remove any wax or sealant product that it on the wheels so you'll need to re-apply.

Agree with Dan, I used Tardis on my misses mum's car for glue only yesterday and it wiped off clean in a matter of seconds.
