Looking at getting a 1.8T

Hey guys, im new to the forum as you can probably see so i'll apologise in advance for any stupid questions i may ask in the future..

basically ive been looking around for a 1.8T (with not much luck) and i recently found one on ebay. from what i can see it looks like a pretty good deal to me. however the dealer says that it needs a new turbo.. how much would i be looking at if i needed to buy a new turbo for it? and is this a big problem or just a small inconvenience?

any of your opinions on this car and what you think i should do, would be much appreciated.. cheers

it took me months to find my 1.8t aswell
looking at the price its quite high still when it needs work doing
if you price up the turbo and then having it fitted if you cant do it your self you would surely be better to buy one fully working
plus if its a car dealer which it says they are y dont they change the turbo to sell it and adjust the price or do they know that somthing else is wrong with it aswell

offer him£1500 and get a ko3s second hand and get it fitted

mate i really dont think its a bad deal at all even putting a new turbo on and a map you will still be under 2,5k not bad at all

To get youself a second hand turbo which on this car woujld be a K03 you would be looking at £100 i would think for a fearly good one. But if you have to take the turbo off i would realy sagest going for K03s one. Thesesa re about £250 second hand but will be a much better upgrade to the Golf. You will then be looking at about another £80ish + or - a few £ for washers, gas gets, coolent etc to be replaced.
So would say to play it safe to do a turbo swap, bugget on around £330 and thats doing the job youself. Hope that helps mate.

personally i would go for a car thats mechainically sound, but needs cosmetic work. that way you get money off and lets face it the cosmetic stuff is going to be done anyway!!!

cheers for the input guys, although i think its still a fairly good deal i reckon i'll just hold out and get one that doesnt need anything doing to it. itll be too much hassle for me to try and sort out i think... hopefully it wont be too long until i find a decent example that i can afford

well good luck lots on ebay look for service history and receipts dont buy sellers saying fast as -uck as usually been thrashed review the buyers guide in the search sectiom and look at the maintenance section lots of advice here too
