Wire for after Market gauges
« on: 05 April 2010, 16:50 »
Does anyone know the best gauge wire to use to wire up after Market dials,I'm talking to run from the senders in the engine bay to the dials,I've used 8amp 96watt cable but both my oil temp and water temp gauges don't seem to work properly, the water gauge only seems to work when stuck in traffic and the oil temp gauge also but sometimes reacts to the revs of the engine like a rev counter,I'm abit confused  :undecided:

i normaly use 0.35mm or 0.5mm ( much smaller ) it's not like sensors for gadgues draw much current.

if there recating to revs i'd say the more likely fluctuating due to voltage, check your grounds and ground locations ( engine block is best ) other than that check your bat tvolatge is relativly constant as the revs rise ( shouldn't affect quality gadges tho as they should have internal regs )
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Sounds like you have a bad earth / bad connection somewhere.

The thickness of the wire wont cause these problems. Not sure of the actual size you need but best policy is if your not sure go a bit thicker just to be safe
