if you had the worst paint in the world...
« on: 10 April 2010, 23:28 »
what would you suggest, my paint is in a realy sorry state, as i've been parking under a tree for a while now  :lipsrsealed:

its really swirly and not very good, loads of tar and tree sap :embarassed: oh and some spaz decided to wipe his boot down the front of my bumper

i'm a poor whore, and have sponges, siminoz car wash/wax, autoglym bodywork conditioner, some pov spec polish in a pink bottle, tcut, some turtlewax wax. so basicly i've got crap gear and not much idea. got some nice polishing cloths, crap chamois, and no hose.

and i'm far too poor to be buying anything at the mo, but the plan was to wash/wax it to clean the worst off, then bodywork conditioner, then tar remover, t-cut. with this i'm a bit unsure. should i do the whole car as its covered in swirls or am i gonna screw the paint up if i do? or should i just try and use this and scratch remover to get the worst of the scratches out and deal with the swirls? after that a polish, then wax.

Am i miles off the mark?

oh and dunno what you use on your windows but windowlene is the foshizzle and pretty cheap

I'd say the 1st thing you need to do is give it a damn good wash then clay bar the bugger (around £15 for a Megs clay bar & detailer) then wash again.........................

Thats a start matey :undecided:

If its in as much of a state as you say it is, after what forrest green has advised, Id then get it properly machine polished.

its all a question on what he can afford

the clay will remove your bonded contaminates and allow you to see where you stand in terms of swirlage

photos might help in this instance... take a picture of the sun (not the paper) as a reflection on your paintwork like this

i'd get a clay bar,  but i guess no-ones gonna buy me one, and i'm about to start the washing. just rinsing out the buckets and sponges.

soon as i get a bit of sun round the back i'll take a pic so you can see what sort of sorry state its in.

* might not actually be the worst paint in the world, just fairy fudged up, loads of swirls, can "lumpy bits."

I'll see how i get on and be back, cheers for the advice.

also using 2 bucket method? on for soap, one to rinse the sponge out. think this is the best way.

and also, i've had someone crash into me and have the repair work pending, should i try and sort the scratches out or should i leave the offending wing and section of bumper alone until its been fixed?

and a reaaaal noob question who does machine polishes - not gonna try myself. is it a bodyshop, or a valeter/detailer? and is that a expensive job? I'm based in bristol if you can reccomend anyone
