live mapping?!
« on: 18 April 2010, 01:14 »
I was wondering if your mapping of a AUQ engine is live mapping and i am not 100% sure i understand what this is to be honest but know it is meant to be better for a good map. Can you enlighten me a bit on what it is and if you do it.

Also do the VAG stock ecus have a tendancy to lose there (re-)maps on occasions and if this happened for no reason after having one with you would it be sorted as part of the service.

Thanks

Hello,

A live remap will be carried out over 2 /3 days, we need to solder an emulation ribbon into the ecu and boot the ecu into development mode to allow us make real time changes via via the laptop without the security checksumm kicking in on stalling the engine.  The only time when you really need to shell out for a live map is when you are going for big turbo power, the live map method allows us to get the n75 map spot on the the ignition timing correct so the knock sensors aint doing all the work.

If your only running the stock turbo then just a normal spec remap will be spot on, or even a custom map.

You cannot loose a map only if some one changes the ecu over or overwrites the ecu with another map for some reason.

cheers for the info mate. That sounds quite extreme to have it live mapped then for a normal KO3s, lol! I hadnt heard of maps being lost before but someone who was telling me about emerald seemed to have something against the standard ECUs and kept going on about how live mapping is the best way to go. Anyway thanks for clearing that up, i will just go for a normal re-map when the time comes then.

Thanks

Michael
