mk3 gti brakes

Hi guys, ive got a mk3 8v gti, its a 96(p) colour concept  and the front discs look a fair old size, it it possible with it being a fairly high spec car that these discs are the same as the vr6?

I was told they are, cos i had new discs and pads all round, a while back and the guy from the garage said that after mid-96 they began fitting the vr6 brakes as standard.
