well daily driver the MK3 gti is on the drive and the MK2 campaign and the Mk1 gti are both garaged as they are both under restoration.

The mk1 lives in the garage overnight thank god, otherwise I wouldn't sleep!

How about both !  ;D As long as the body work is tip top you can always put in a new engine etc

So are you saying that any mk1s, mk2s etc that have had engine transplants shouldn't be considered as a classic in the future  ???
