Wiper problems
« on: 18 November 2004, 21:51 »
Hi all! ?Why is owning a VW not being as pleasurable as i hoped. ?today while mooching round cardiff my windscreen wipers became intermitent. ?I have had a good look with a tin of WD40 but this hasnt worked, so during the further look i have established nothing stuck in the mechanism, and the gearbox seems to be ok, because when i try to move the wiper arms there is a high resistance which i presume is the wipers back driving the motor. ?So i now think its the motor and its lost all its torque, anyone with any ideas????? ?Was going to say typical, tut they only break when its raining but im guessing thats the only time id be using them. ?cheers shaggy

Just a quick feedback tale, having wrestled the front scuttle off, changing a chip to a crack in the process (new screen on order), i got into the wiper bits, the motor and most of the mechanism is all ok except one piece.  The wiper and  gearbox drives an arm round and round, this arm has 2 ball sections on it which drive the 2 arms to the individual wiper assemblies, this ball section drive piece which was showing the first signs of seizing solid, generous oil and grease has been applied and is now all ok.
