gti fuel pump dead??

get a chunky bit of wire andbridge the large terminals on the fuel pump relay socket and the pump will run. alternatively iirc if you fit a 53 type relay to the fuel pump socket the pump will run as long as the ignition is on

its also worth noting not all k-jet 8v pumps prime with the ignition.

So if i bridge the terminals on the relay socket, the MAIN underbody pump will run? if that works and sends power to the pump, isn't the relay at fault and if i got a new one, the car will be sorted? I'm starting to think I might need to call in an auto electrician.

I was thinking that I would have to buy a new main pump and relay, ive got the new filter to fit as well, so if im going to the trouble of refreshing the whole system, no doubt the metering head and intake manifold could do with a good clean but is there anything else is there any other parts or jobs that I should replace or clean up?

if you bridge the relay both pumps should run, if one or both dont work they're either dead or there is a wiring problem. oh, fuse could be gone as well but since you get 8v to one of them that suggests fuse is ok and its more of a wiring problem.

well, Ive now replaced the lift pump, main fuel pump, fuel pump relay and filter all with new parts.
(I had a simler problem that was solved by swapping the main pump for a used one about 2- 3 years ago so i was thinking the pumps had failed again, due to a bust lift pump so a good spring clean of the fuel system can't hurt)

BUT the car still wont start, so its definitely a wiring problem or trouble with the alarm/ immobiliser, I think that as the car cut out mid flight and that no power is getting to the main pump its an immobiliser relay at fault, but how can I be sure what relay I need to check and how do you check a relay? do you use a multimeter?

just re-read the initial post and realised gsf have sold you the wrong fuel relay. 167 relay is for ecu equipped cars only, you need a k-jet relay:

The 167 relay has been swapped for what I'm sure is the right one (the more expensive one from GSF) I'll check the number when I'm home from work.

ok cool. relay socket is wired up as follows:
1 - earth
2 - live
3 - output to fuel pump via fuse #5
4 - ignition live
6 - rev counter feed

so check those out with a multimeter
