mk2 16v oil pump/ pressure
« on: 31 March 2010, 14:33 »
what oil pump pressure should i be getting on a 9a engine? the engine recently rinsed two shells, cyl 2+3, cylinders 1 and 4 seemed fine. im suspicious of the pump, but cant find any figures to look for regarding pressure. my oil flasher light goes out on startup, so seems fine, but ive got no reading for oil temp on the mfa. any help would be appreciated?

Gah .... search much?

At idle:

Cold: 4.5 Bar
Up to Temp: 0.8 Bar

At 2k RPM:

Cold: 4.5+ Bar (my gauges are only 0-5)
Up to Temp: 3 Bar

After *just* starting, the oil will be relatively thick - as a result, oil pressure will be unnaturally high until it begins to flow and thin down. Although multi-grade oils are meant to be the same viscosity whatever - it doesn't exactly work in practice.

The above results are from the pressure measured at the head.
