Hey everyone maybe someone can help me out here before i go mad....

Ive got an n reg 1.6 cl thats cranking, getting fuel and a spark but wont fire up. Cranked it over earlier on for about 10 mins then it slowly started to splutter into life and ran perfect for about half an hour then i switched it off and back on and wont start again, just cranks over and over.

I had a smililar problem around christmas and thought id solved it with a new coil and pieceing together a few wires that had became corroded but now im at wits end with it :(

Ive checked all the wiring that i fixed and alls well, its getting a good healthy spark, plenty fuel, no vaccum leaks on the hoses, took apart the idle control valve and cleaned that, all cylinders have great compression, timings spot on too. Ive been at this for 3 days now and looking all over the net for ideas, only thing ive not checked yet is the relays, seems to be a common fault.

Has anyone else had similar problems or can shed some light on this??

thanks

ron

ok, if its getting a spark, fuel and the timings right, it should fire up. Very weird.

Obviously something must still be wrong, so if you have seen the sparks occur, and you have checked the dizzy timing, they are probably ok, so how did you check the fuel? i.e. the fuel pressure may be low or non existent, have you seen an injector spray or just going on the noise of the fuel pump running?

A sensor fail or immob cut out could stop it from running and the crank sensor or the hall sensor on the diz would too, but there would be no spark if they failed.

Can you get it scanned for codes?

If you can, get it plugged in to vagcom and scan for codes. My 1.6 CL used to play up also, turned out to be a sensor in the plastic casing built into the throttle body, so I had to replace my throttle body!!

i put an inline fuel filter on the fuel feed just to check incase it was dirty fuel fills up nicely and the injectors spraying as normal. I did think it was maybe an immob problem but as you said there would be no spark.

Anyone near me got vagcom and a spare 5 mins? lol

swapped the realys for the ecu and fuel pump over and he fired up with half a turn of they key but then they started clicking and it cut out, i took down the fuse board and its covered in rusty water at the back so i think that might be wha the problem is  :undecided: ill keep you guys posted incase anyone else has similar problems
