I've recently swapped my steering wheel for another one (still with an airbag).  Now though, the airbag light stays on.

How would I go about getting rid of that pesky light without an airbag going of in my face?

You will need someone with vagcom to reset it.

I can get a VAGCOM on eBay pretty cheap. Is it an easy case to reset it this way, or am i likely to really muck things up?

If you leave the battery disconnected and only connec it when you have all finshed you should not need vagcom.

sounds like the wire comeing out from the slip ring(mine has a yellow connector block on the end)
it should unclip, mine was a little stiff ,but a good tug whilst holding the release bits on the other end of the connector and it came undone.

try that mate...might be it ?????
