Hi everyone! Looking for advice!
« on: 18 March 2010, 17:19 »
Hi All,

I'm Mike and new to this forum. I'm hoping to get some useful advice!

I used to have a mk1 gti many years back but since then had BMW's, but now I want a change and after driving a mk5 gti for a few days and loved it!

I'm looking to buy something like an 06 plate, and have about 10k to spend. The problem is having been away from the VW scene for many years I'm not really up to date on the later models, and what to look for. What I'm asking is can you guys give me any ideas on what to go for spec wise? Any common problems with the mk5? anything to look out for and avoid? What options do you think are a must? I'm not even sure if i prefer a 3 or 5 door so any opinions on what you think will be great, likewise manual vs auto etc!

Thanks in advance, Mike

As long as its GTI you will love it ! I had 13 years with Audis and was apprehensive  about switching ..... best thing Ive done in a long while , I ve had my black 06 with 18 inch monzas for over two years and still look forward to driving it every day , and it still looks the business and turns heads . Also this site is the best , I dont contribute much but have enjoyed a read nearly every day , go for it !

Lots of info in the MKV maintenance section. The thread below may help too.
