Techy temperature!
« on: 26 February 2010, 23:01 »
Anybody know whether you can re-calibrate the outside temp reading on the MFA - mine always seems to read about 3-4 degrees lower than actual.

I know, derr - I can make that adjustment in my head - but I am anal enough to want things right!!!

Sad git.

Know what you mean... It's just annoying when its wrong...

Sounds like a faulty sensor/probe... But don't ask me where or how to fix it...

Are they usually that accurate on cars anyway? I find most of them differ by a few degree's

Maybe your golf is just too cool

You should get away with popping a trim pot (variable resistor) either inline or parallel with the sensor (depending on wether it over-reads or under-reads) and tuning the resistance to suit the difference but I dont know the range of resistances the sensor goes through from lowest to highest temp etc so cant help with any values. Its pretty easy to calculate the value you will need if you do some simple resistance and maybe current readings at a few different known temperatures and know what voltage you have at the sensors plug (dont assume its 14v, it wont be).

Thanks DOA - that is very techy - might need my son's help with that one. Might try a new sensor first.

I had hoped that there might be something on the secret menu in the MFA.
