GT TDI 130PD, lost 1st and 2nd gears
« on: 16 February 2010, 22:17 »
Hey guys,

Had an issue yesterday where I lost 1st and 2nd gears, all others including reverse work fine.  Thought it may have been the selector but thats all moving correctly.  When you move to 1st or 2nd gear you can hear there is no engagement within the box.

So the car got taken home on a flatbed and I've just ordered a replacement low mileage box.

Obviously while I have it all apart I'll be changing the clutch, any recommendations?  Power will remain at 130 so just need a decent OEM.  Sachs, Valeo?

Also while it's apart is there any other parts I should think about doing?  Car has done 132,000 miles with most things still original.

Cheers

I personally wouldn't bother with an uprated clutch just go for a standard one as apposed to a Sach as your staying with the 130bhp so no need.
Whilst you got it opened up you might aswell change the release bearing, I can't add much more info than that but apprently it's a good thing to change when it's open and also given thee age and price of the part you may as well.

Sachs do a standard one, been looking on euro car parts and the ones listed are LUK, Sachs and Valeo.  Anyone recommend a brand?  Clutch release bearing will definately be changed while its apart.

Whats all this i read about the dual mass flywheel needing replacing too?
