Pressure washer question
« on: 10 February 2010, 20:23 »
Hi, not quite sure if this is in right section, but know all you lot use power washers so thought id try here. If more suited to a different section, please move

At work, i can use this  power washer (or very similar) and was just wondering, if i cranked up the heat (90 degrees?) could this remove lacquer from alloy wheels? Need to remove the lacquer before having wheels powdercoated and this could save me some money if i dont have to get them blasted

no mate it wont remove the laquer, back in my early days of valeting we used to de-wax the toyota vans when they came off the transporter with the machine heat cranked up full blast and it only removed the transport wax that they put on in the factory to protect it whist in transit,

if your getting them powder coated anyway its worth thinking about nitromorse yourself or to save the hassle just get them blasted!! it could work out cheaper in the long run.

yeah, its just they wanted from 15 pound a wheel to blast and thought this might have been a bit much, and also savable money

We have taken paint off the works pick-up with i and just thought it might also do this to my wheels  :undecided:

give it a try by all means, but it will take you ages tbh, im getting some 17" passat rims and im going to be refurbing myself using nitromores to get the laquer off then a rub down by hand to remove the paint.

if your getting them powder coated i would also suggest going and having a chat with the guys who will be doing it and see what they say.

They asked if they were lacquered which i said yes, they the said would be best to get them blasted.

Was just wondering as i know them washers can strip your paint easy enough, i thought it would remove lacquer from wheels to
