Rear bumper repair or replace
« on: 02 February 2010, 22:56 »
Hi All
Some kind sole has clipped the rear bumper on the GTi - they've somehow managed to gauge some small bits out of the  bumper (just on the one side) and it has creased ever so lightly on the flat part where the bumper meets the boot.

A chap at Porsche was confident a smart repair could be done for c£120 but the VW approved bodyshop quoted something like £300+ to repair it so I was thinking I may just as well have a new one fitted. Any idea how much it would cost to source, paint (reflex silver) and fit the bumper? I'd lost patience with the bodyshop as they were quoting all sorts of bollox over the phone.  It looks like I'll also need the lower black platic part but I understand they are only £40.

While I'm at it, is it worth having a rear bumper with reverse parkinbg sensors fitted and/or an R32 fully colour coded upgrade fitted??

Thanks

How about looking on ebay for a second-hand bumper? If you can get one in the same colour then you can fit it yourself. Might be the cheapest option.

The problem with a smart repair is that they might not get the colour match right and the finish could be a bit poor (that's my experience).

Shouldn't be too difficult to fit the bumper yourself but think you need to remove the rear light clusters to get to the fixings.

Thanks for that. I have tried sourcing a spare but no luck yet.
