Prep and spraying advice for front grill

I'm gunna respray my front grill and front badge. So far I've sanded both with 800 then primered, sanded with 1200 then primered again. Was gunna do 3 coats of primer then 5 coats of paint and then 2 coats of laquer. Does that sound right? Is there any other way I should do it? Also will it be best to get a can of paint from the stealers or is halfords mixed up stuff ok?

have you used plastcote prima? if not it will flake eventually making your hard work a waste of time

the rest of what you put sounds like you've got it in order halfords paint is ok but expensive and the colour match could be slightly out to the original, you will proberly get butt raped by the stealers for a can of paint, have you got a paint shop or an idependant auto paint suppliers near you?

make sure you do thin cotes when you spray at each stage to avoid runs etc.

Cheers for the info mate, I've just used halfords plastic grey primer because in the how to for the sharan badge that's what was used in it.

Any tips on how to keep the layers thin? The first few layers of primer I put on where the first I had ever sprayed so they came out a little thick with the odd run. The last coat I done seems to be run free so maybe it's just a case of getting used to it.

mist the paint in short bursts over said object at a distance of about 30/50cm,once you can see its just about covered it.....stop spraying. let it dry and repeat the process till you've built the layers up, thin layers will be alot better than a few thick layers, thick layers will chip or bubble in the long run.
