Filler Neck
« on: 25 January 2010, 22:45 »
Is it possible to replace the filler neck only?
Mine's a bit rusted, I have cleaned off as much as I can.

If not, any tips on rust removal?

Maybe I'm explaining it wrong.
Where the cap screws into is rusted.
Top of the filler pipe?

you cant replace that bit unfortunately, best you can do is clean it up and hope it doesn't come back :(

some kind of anti rust treater that leaves a coating would help, then replace the cap/seal to reduce the chance of moisture getting in. might be fuel is or has been contaminated with water

Any recommendations on products/brands to use?
Never treated rust before!

por15 do one called metal ready, kills the rust then leaves a zinc coating. not sure on durability of it tho.  but even vinegar will work on rust if you soak it long enough, get some tissues soaked in it and drape over problem area, put cling film over the top. :)

Vinegar seems to be working!
Only had white wine vinegar in the cupboard, it removed a bit.
Bought some malt vinegar today for 13p, so if it works **BARGAIN**
Also ordered a new fuel cap.
