you are better off drilling the air box, removing the trumpet on the inside (both on the bottom half and top half) and sticking in a panel filter. I use pipercross which is also recommended by Rtech. If you want an extra bit of poke too buy some tubing (I use some old ducting from an air conditioning unit which is about 100mm in diameter) and make the correct size hole in the bottom half of the air box and stick that on, shouldn't disappoint you like the cone filter will.

hmmm...so u rekon i take the panel filter from K & n and then slice it into two halves, and then sandwich a ducting in it?!!..or shud i just do it with the filter that i have, a pretty random one put in my the previous owner who slaughtered the car..

The last car i had was a limited edition charade daetamasu 1 liter turbo(82), chucked the engine out and put in a turbo diesel one...so im prone to asking DUMB questions!

dont slice the panel filter, hes talking about removing the ducting inside the OG airbox+ putting some ducting running to the airbox to channel cold air

I meant removing the two small trumpets inside the air box and getting hold of some ducting, and then routing it from the lower bumper air intake or from behind the grill and into the air box.

I'd use pipercross filter btw, dead easy to clean and recommended by many, I think most of the mk4 boy use them.

Sorry Ali but i just had to laugh.....

If you were in the uk i'd say go with the induction kit as mostly its so cold here you don't have to really worry about heatsoak for atleast 9 months of the year. But if your in a hot climate then i'd advise you to follow the advice Khare gave.

guys..i live in the freikin desert..dubai..so yeah i appreciate the advice coupled with a hearty laugh at my expense.....but then i would assume a kit would be better cause it comes with a cold intake pipe which goes down next to the bumber vent...hmm..asking for a confirmation on the authenticity of my limited guess work!

If you are living in a hot and dusty environment, you'll want all the protection you can get. Temperatures in Dubai might make heat soak the biggest issue with a cone filter.

Take a look at this link for good information on modding the existing air box to improve flow.
