MK2 inner lamps/spots
« on: 16 January 2010, 11:56 »
Just spoken to my local dealer and the inner spots for a mk2 are obsolete, and headlamps too!

Does anybody know of anywhere that has stock of the inner spots? Thanks.

Old ones can be brought back to life by soaking them in a strong bleach solution for half a day, new adjuster kits are still available from the dealer/GSF mine are like new, and don't look 20yrs old. OE Hella outers are available from GSF £18ish...

Mine looked shabby, inner lenses were dirty, the white bead of sealer that bonds the lens to the reflector had turned yellow, and the adjusters were rusting, and suffered broken clips.
Lamps were stripped, and submerged in bucket of very hot water and probably a couple of cups full of bleach, as said above, left for half a day or so, then emptied , and flushed with clean hot water, and forced dry with a hot air gun, the lens should now be sparkling, and the yellow sealer returned to white, any stone chipping on the lenses, can be treated with a clear wax, then finished with new adjusters, and good quality bulbs...

Here's mine, inner's are 20 years old, outers are 6 months!

According to the cover car story in Febs PVW, inner lamps can still be bought new from Hella stockists.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
