Surging at idle
« on: 18 January 2010, 22:45 »
The idle switch on the throttle body either opens or closes a circuit.
When the throttle stop is sat on the switch at idle, the cicuit is closed, when the throttle leaves this switch the circuit is now open (i.e. incomplete).

Therefore removing the switch should have the same effect as a marginally open throttle/opening the circuit right?

Having scoured the forums, i seem to be under the impression that people report their revs will fluctuate when this happens but, the only situation this could make sense to me is if the car borderline stalling, recovering, then stalling again etc etc.

Can anyone shed any light?

The cause of this confusion is that my car will generally sit at 1700~ rpm when i disconnect mine.

Mine would surge at idle & sometimes revs would fall enough for engine to stall when the idle switch was disconnected, toyotec seemed to think it should idle high but I never found that to be the case.

check the idle & timing as per the digi faq, see what that does for you.
