will panels from another car match?
« on: 26 February 2010, 16:37 »
I have finally found someone breaking a identical car to mine near me, and im going to get a new bonnet and wing. i wondered if the panels are likely to be a straight colour match? the cars are both oak green, but im wondering if they can fade, or if the colours varied slightly in anyway? would t-cutting possibly rectify any colour mismatches?

Won't fade as it's metalic but they can be slightly different shades. If you can go view them and take you car so you can hold them up against the car to compare. I reckon they'll be fine though. I've slung Atalas grey metalic panels on a MKII and they matched almost perfectly.

The solid colours are not so good, especially Tornado Red!

If they dont match exactly, what are you going to do? wait for the right shade of Oak green to come along.....

If you car is the factory paint, and the donor car is factory paint, theirs a good chance of a match... other than that your guess will be as good as anyone else's....

I swapped a tornado red sunroof from a 91 big bumper golf into an 89 small bumper and the match is perfect!

What he meant with the red comment is that as it's not a metallica color, they fade a hell of a lot more commonly than metallic colors, hence all the Tornado Pink cars driving around

Well they were both different shades of pink when I put it in but they both polished back to the same red. What I'm suggesting is that you've probably got a better chance of a match with a VW than say, a pug. Got a red door for my daughter's 98, 306, same colour code, and they're way out, and they are laquered!  :undecided:

Damn that tornado red.
I got front end respray years ago completely different colour red and they were like "it ll die down"
Back in bodyshop 2 weeks later they done it again and rung me to say it was the same so id have to drive the car rubbed down for a week and i would have to get the paint matched myself. Turns out they had taken the fuel flap to a paint shop which was completely different shade of red and there was about 5 different shades of tornado red to choose from.

Metallics dont always match just fit it and see. My metallic faded over the years which ment I had to repaint the lot as the colour match was way off
