Hi,
I have a mk2 GTi 8v and the bottom pulley that runs the alternator seems have separated. It looks like it is in two parts the centre that bolts to the crank and the outer part that runs the belt. The outer part is now spinning independently and is causing a metal squeak when the engine is running and it has also screwed up the timing mark completely.
Normally this would not be a problem I would just order a new one but the part is no longer available from VW.

Is it possible to replace the pulley system with something off of a MK3? I have a 2e bottom end if that makes any difference.
I can live with the squeak for the time being (but it is getting worse) and set the timing off of the flywheel. I am just interested if anyone else has encountered this and how to over come the problem?
