Can NCB affect other policies after an accident?
« on: 13 January 2010, 11:29 »
Hi,

I have a bit of a confusing issue and hoping someone can enlighten me.

I have a Mk2 Golf GTI insured with one company, 7 years no claims and a VW Camper on classic car policy with another company and 2 year no claims.

Back in August I had a Nissan Bluebird (don't laugh, it seemed like a good idea at the time), my wife was driving and had an accident, she was a named driver on my policy with yet another company. The insurance companies are still trying to sort out who is at fault.

My question is, if they find that my wife was at fault, could I loose my NCB on the other two policies (golf and camper)?

Thanks Matt.

I think ull only loose any no claims on the Nissan as all policys are seperate from one another
this happened to me and I have two cars but only lost the no claims on the car that was in the accident

Cheers,
I thought this might be the case, but just wanted to double check. I guess it would be a different story if I had a multi car policy?

yeah just to concrete this.

you will have to always declare this accident for the next 5 years whether it's fault or non-fault on any policy you have. Luckily it will only affect the NCB on the poilicy the accident occured on.

However always explain the situation to the insurer though as if they see a fault claim on your details but you've still got NCB they might think your trying to pull a fast one, so just explain the situation and you won't have any problems.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the update. I hadn't thought about the fact that I will have NCB and an accident, it might sound a little strange to insurance companies.
Thanks again.
