Me personally 40mm drop is more than suffice and will make a big difference on the eye.
You may want to go lower but I think you'd be better off getting coilovers if you wanna go lower.

What does the kit actually come with? How much is it?

As far as i've hear H&R are a good company that make good suspension stuff, correct me if i'm worng guys.

think they just shocks and springs  but i was thinking of running 17's as 18's tyres cost far bit and i do alot of motorway miles unless i just get springs on thier own? leave standard shocks and run 17's?

what you think?

as usual money is tight but if i don't eat and also sell some body fluids lol i can just sort out a better stance and wheels that is if my other probs arent bad. fingers crossed

My personal opinion is 18's on a Golf is the way to go as the gap in arch is quite big.

But as you've stated 18" rubber can be quite alot dearer that 17" but if you run a lower profile like 35 instead of 40 I think it works out a little cheaper, not sure though so best to check.
