Quick question - what's this pipe
« on: 20 December 2009, 20:02 »
Just wondering what this large pipe coming into the air intake is, my guess is the warm air feed? If it is the warm air feed, is it safe to remove that pipe and close the hole or something? Engine is a 1.4 AEX.

The pipe in your hand is the cold air feed. The flexi one going into it from the exhaust manifold is the warm air feed.

I would leave them on.

If you mean the flexi one coming from the exhaust manifold then yeah you can take that off and chuck it in the bin.

It was put onto the ABD engines as a hot air feed to stop the carb from icing up in the winter. The AEX is multi point fuel injected however, so it doesn't need it at all.

I've fitted an induction kit to my 1.6 AEE (same setup as the AEX) and have thrown the warm air feed over the hedge

Not a good idea as it could suck up water and crap from the road

Also I think the lower vents on a Vento are a different shape to Golfs so the lower intakes wouldn't fit?

I meant the flexible tube, which is now confirmed to be the warm air feed. Thanks guys
Joe, did you plug the hole from the warm air feed with anything or just leave it open?
You're right about the lower vents on the Vento too, they are a slightly different shape so bored welsh lad's bumper vents wont sit properly in them. I remember asking him about it before.

yes if your not going to put a cold air feed on it then yes plug it off. find a local parts store and buy a rubber grommet to go over or in and cut off the air into it
