What type of Mk2 GTI do you have - KJet or Digifant??

The fueling on both is controlled differently - but both measure the amount of air entering the engine and adjust the fuel accordingly.

Could be a dodgy MAF - but depends on the model as to what to look for.

When it was on the rollers what Bhp did it put out, and more importanly what did they change/adjust??

I brought the car then 3 weeks later took her for a tune.

Was running like a bag of poo, idle was high and could not get it down.

He changed over the vacume hoses as they was on the wrong way round, set the timing up, and the mixture and idle. He also said that there should of been a restictor in the brather pipe that come off of the air filter as it was sucking too much air, was pulling great then ::)

he did say it was 100bhp but it only has a rear box on ::)

Not to sure how to tell the differance in KJet or Digifant, its an 1984 1800 gti

Don't know if this helps but I had similar problem on my MK1 when I bought it. Strong smell of fuel - esp. after filling up the tank. Also, when brimming full the tank, petrol leaked on to the floor from the tank for 10 mins or so.

If I opened the sunroof it smelt REALLY strong so I (wrongly) assumed it was coming from the engine.

Turned out to be the O-ring under the sender unit  on top of the petrol tank. I replaced it and problem solved! Obviously, when I brimmed the tank up it leaked out and ran down the tank on to the floor until fuel level was low enough for it to stop!

If it is a digifant, check the fuel pipes that go onto the injector rail. The hose clips can slacken off and cause a fuel leak when the engine is first started. Try tightening the hose clips.

mine was overfueling quite bad and i could smell it in the car. Had it tuned and problem solved.  :) what engine are you running? K-jet's tend to run rich down low as they for some reason kick lean on the top end. Maybe whoever tuned it over compensated for this. Hope this helps.
