What are these engine parts called. Pics!
« on: 01 December 2009, 12:39 »
OK guys here is a link
http://www.warrenbutterworth.co.uk/car.html
to 2 photos of my engine. I am trying to find out what these two sensors (1st pic- circled)
are just behind the rocker cover. My car is a 1.4cl mk3 golf.

Also I have problems with my car working fine then when I go to restart it it doesn't fire. I wiggle the wire going into the sensor on top of the dizzy cap and it starts. I believe there is a dodgy wire. Can someone tell me what this sensor is and can i buy it seperately or does it come with all the other sensors that are attached. If so what is it called.
thanks guys

don know about the sensors but for the wire, either find the fault in the wire+ fix it or you can buy a new plug but i sounds like a wire.

oil pressure warning switches, i can see for a start they're plugged in the wrong way round, the black sensor should have a blue wire, and white sensor should have a yellow wire.

the sensor you wiggle is the hall sensor, pop the plug off and clean up the contacts and connector on dizzy, then unwrap the wires as far as you can to check for damage. also make sure pins are seated fully into the plug.  Oh and peel back the rubber boot, perhaps they're damaged inside there out of sight

Thanks for this guys. (Rubjonny) has posted that the wires are the wrong way round. Black sensor left has yellow wire at the moment and vice versa. But the cables are in a plastic case behind spark plugs and the wires for the sensors come out at the correct locations for the plugs. Wires will not reach if they are to be swapped. UNLESS the sensors have been taken out and put in the wrong way around. Would this not cause issues while driving if this was the case. (by the way only bought car 4 weeks ago).???
