RNS510 and autotronics
« on: 18 November 2009, 21:07 »
Hi,

Have an '57' GTI Oct 2007 with a RCD310 and Ipod prep in arm rest and PDC.

Thinking of getting Autotronice to fit a RNS510

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-RNS-510-SAT-NAVIGATION-SYSTEM-MFD3-FITTED-1_W0QQitemZ110361765672QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item19b212e728

Is there anything I need to know or watch out for?

Will my CanBus module be ok?

Does the ipod adapter still work?

Any vag-com alerations needed? I presume PDC will not be displayed on the RNS510?

Thanks in advance

Si

Make sure it comes with the latest VW sat nav DVD (or is at least pre-loaded). Also bear in mind that it still doesn't do full post codes. Do they include a GPS antenna?

I bought mine from overseas for £700 including everything I needed (maps, firmware, cables, antenna etc).

Took me maybe about an hour max to fit it. It ain't that hard.

Find out which version they would supply, best bet for the future is to try and get a 'C' version

I bought my RNS510 from these guys along with the premium bluetooth about 18 months ago when it cost a lot more than that!!

I have had endless trouble with my unit, which rattles non-stop and can be temperamental. They did honour the 12 month warranty and I took it back 4/5 times but since that ran out it seems to have got worse.

I just want to stress that this is only my experience of them and I could just have been unlucky.

It is certainly worth trawling ebay for one and fitting it yourself! Make sure you ask all the seller if the security seals are in tact, as if not it is likely a stolen unit that will die if you ever try to upgrade the software!
