Not driven for a year
« on: 24 January 2010, 20:57 »
I was totally shocked (although I should no better) that my 8v gti started first time after not even being touched for over a year. I was about to sell it for parts so it must have known. :smiley:
Anyway, I know it needs;
4 new tyres
new brakes discs and pads and hoses
possibly clutch cable
wiper blades
cambelt change (just to be safe, it hasn't gone yet at 117k) so I'm guessing water pump too
exhaust back box
mot
oh and quite a bit of rust by the petrol filler cap which is worrying me

Really want to get it back on the road after I killed my Mondeo so any advice on anything else I should check after it being sat for a year would be very helpfull. Also, do you think it's worth it or should I still just sell it for parts?

Really made my whole year ( I know it's only Jan, but it did) that it started, nearly cried, nearly!

Any help would be cool.

I would say an mot first and see what they say on there.... just give the brakes a clean up first and a normal pre mot check, then a good service and it should be fine

As above if engine is ok it all hinges on how much it will cost to get it through its mot.
