MK2 mass air flow meter questions!!!

HI guys, I have rebuilt and got the car running fine but it is running very rich, I know there is a sensor down a plug whole and I think the bolt is down there but the blanking plug is removed, if i cover the blanking plug whole the engine starts to stutter and from what I have read that whole is very sensitive to any pressure, is there any where I can get just the blanking plug or can I use something else. Also is there a base setting on the screw sensor that you need to put it too to start getting the mix set up right.

ive never seen a mk2 digi with a cap fitted, uszually they have lost em by now. are you sure the problem isnt that the screw is wound out too far?  have you set it up as per the digi faq with a co meter?

Mine had one in and its g reg!! gone now though.
