Golf Gti 16v 1997

Hello All,

My first post as I've just picked up my new Golf. Very pleased with it, but I have a slight issue with the throttle. As I put my foot down to increase the revs from idle, the revs momentarily go down by about 200 to 300 revs, before going back up again. Not a big problem, but a little irritating. Only seems to happen from idle.

Any ideas what's wrong? Is it the throttle cable in need of adjustment?

Its not to do with the throttle cable.

Does it do it when cold and warm?

Or just when cold?

Does it do it when braking hard to a stop?

Theres a few things it could be, but nothing serious.

check cable adjustment, clean TB + check ISV + the wires coming from TB

This happens everytime, whether hot or cold, and only when I put my foot on the throttle from idle as I try to pull off, no other times.

Sounds to me like a vacuum leak. Replace your vacuum lines with new ones. Especially the manifold to ecu and the manifold to fuel pressure regulator, but do them all anyway it will only cost you a few quid. 3mm internal diameter silicon stuff is best.

3mm is the correct size for the 16v that the thread is about. All apart from the two big vac pipes that go to the brake servo and the charcoal cannister. Don't know about the 8v (better engines or not)
