New idle settings not being 'saved'
« on: 15 November 2009, 12:29 »
A few of you may have read my post where when the throttle comes off the idle switch the revs go crazy high. Unplugging the ISV will completely stop the engine at idle in this state.

Anyway, as per rj's guide -
Unplug the breather hose, plugged  the hose and the connecting bit on the throttle body.
Start engine
Let it get upto temp
Unplug the blue sensor, (revs jump abit so know thats working)
Rev it 3x over 3000rpm, letting it fall back to idle each time.

It's then that the throttle works really nicely, it opens from completely shut to open in a nice smooth transition.

Happily, i reconnect the blue sensor (engine still running), try the throttle, and its gone back to bugger-ville, jumping to 1500/1600rpm as soon as the throttle leaves the idle switch.

Any ideas?

Edit: after more testing:
If the blue sender is disconnected, the usual check to see if the idle switch is working, where you increase the revs a little, then press it, and it should drop, do not seem to do anything, but do when it is plugged back in again.

The way it behaves ok with the blue sensor unplugged makes me think that maybe one of the switches or the wiring to them has gone. Can you get your hands on a different throttle body?

Don't know what sort of readings you should get from the loom but hopefully someone else will.

Nope, am the only person I know with a mk2 :(
Is it worth getting new switches or just easier to get a throttle body with them already attached and calibrated?

Have got a spare one lying around here if you're close. Never tested it though.
