help someone
« on: 18 November 2009, 13:58 »
Hi

IWent on holiday for a week and before this was using car everyday. Got home from holiday went to start and it was struggling eventually got it started!! Left it running for about 10mins and in this time it was popping and banking and misfiring!! I tried driving it down the road and it just wouldnt hold the revs, they get dipiing and then it would stall on me!! I found that when trying to pull off in first gear it really struggled but as soon as i put my clutch down it was fine, I had to drive it while clutch was doing so burning my clutch NOT GOOD!! I turned round and drove it home it felt like it kept jumping from ruinning on 4 cylinders to three then two etc.

I have had a friend look at it but hes not a mechanic but he said one thing he noticed was in the plug socket furthest away from the battery so as you look at engine the one on left there was oil sitting on the bottom of ht lead!!

I have thought poss coil, leads, new plugs or poss rocker cover gasket and even the extent of poss a valve stem seal. Anyone got any ideas someone help me just wana drive it again

Cheers Lucy

Lucy,  first clean that plug and make sure its tight. get all the oil off it, then try again.

Oil in th eplug hole is classic cam cover gasket failure. Get this fixed and cleaned up and as Len said above get some new leads and plugs if they haven't been replaced in the last year and see how it goes.

Add your location to your profile as you never know there maybe a spanner handy forum member nearby who could help you get it sorted.

Inlet manifold and throttle body off, then about 10 or 12 nuts/bolts. Not too hard at all.

You'll be best off getting th emanifold gaskets as well as they shouldn't be re used.
