Really hard coilovers!!!
« on: 05 November 2009, 19:35 »
Hi all,

Recently fitted a set of Jamex coilovers to my mk2, dont know how low its dropped but the arch sits just below top of the tyre

Problem is they are unbelievably hard!!! I've been in some much lower cars but this is spine crushing

I'm actually considering going back to stadard setup
Are they just crap coilovers? Whats the best thing to do here?

Cheers.

they are just unfortunately a cheap setup so will be. if you want to have a dropped golf invest in ap's or weitecs at a shade under 400 quid or go with a good shock & spring setup which will give you a tidy drop and keep the comfort.

So I take it a decent set of coilovers will be more comfy? Its so hard the back number plate fell off and had to replace 2 wheel bearings!  Now a strange rattle has developed from the dash, also burst the arch...was a bit low 2 start with!

Mite just get sum new shocks then and use a decent set of lowering springs

It will never be comfy if its slammed = no matter what you buy ... and expect quality coilys to rinse you of £600+.

Most people rave about the -40mm weitec hicon GT kit ;)

Bought my car with Bilstein shocks and springs allready on and despite the drop its got (cant get a finger between arch and wheel) the ride quality isnt much off standard, its bit stiffer but doesnt bounce like a mini and doesnt smash your teeth out.
Very impressed with them on these rough isle of wight roads.

Yep, so cheap coilovers were a massive waste of time
Thanks for all the advise...a think al go for a set of koni or bilstein shocks with 40mm drop on eibach springs  from what av read its a tried and tested combo
