VR6 TDC1
« on: 04 November 2009, 19:06 »
Ok, the situation is that i have removed the head of my VR6 with cams in place WITHOUT setting it to TDC1 and locked in place with a locking tool.

I have then removed the bottom chains with the camshaft set to tdc1 and timed etc.

Now i want to refit my head and time up the upper chains.

My problem is, being an idiot and not a mechanic i didnt set the cams to tdc1 and dont know how to set them up before i put the head back on. As its twin cam and they are both spinning freely i dont know where the valves etc should be on a VR6 to be tdc. Idealy i want to know how it should be set, so i can lock the shafts in place and bolt it back to the block.

Does that make sense? And can anyone help?

All good.

Found out that the grooves on the end of the 2 cams for the locking tool are ofset, so in theory you can only lock them in 1 position to make it tdc1 on both cams regardless of the head being on the car or not.
