One small difference: on some models of mk5 (early ones) the attachment pegs in the front carpet are a different shape. On the mk6 and late mk5s there are round pegs and the early mk5s had oval pegs. Kind of reminds you of those baby toys where you have to hammer the square brick through the round hole.....
