It's a bit after the fact for you mate, but I too have experienced this hell.
To save anyone else, here is the solution.
The noise is coming from the stereo itself, said to be one of the most secure for it's time!
There is a small separate unit within the stereo that has a small speaker and a couple of batteries that when activated emits afore mentioned noise.
This is triggered by a micro switch that can be reset with a small screwdriver.
You then have to keep that set while you put the faceplate back on.
Better still, remove it. take out the batteries and chuck it away!
I think you may lose the warning if you leave the front face on when locking the car, but hey!
The stereo will still work.
