Rear Wiper electrics
« on: 27 September 2004, 10:22 »
my rear wiper doesnt work. the crank had seized which im near enough sure has caused something to burn out

i've checked the fuse, and there is power getting to the fuse. ive renewed the relay.

the motor works fine. its just not getting any power. ive also checked the wiring at the join between the roof & the boot. there is no power going to the green wire. just the constant live grey is gettin power

is there a switch in the actual stalk that could have got burnt out? and is there a way of testin this apart from gettin another stalk? the rear window squirter works fine

Cheers,
Craig

Assuming I have the right circuit diagram in front of me here, the grey wire should indeed be getting a constant live which draws its power from the same fuse as the relay would need to power the green wire: S12 (15A). That would indicate that S12 is perfectly ok. That can only mean one thing, you aren't getting a signal from the switch to the relay (1/L)

I've only had a quick look so I may be wrong here but it does appear to be the negative that is switched with a permenant live at 4/31. Try giving the other side of the relay (1/L) a negative feed - any luck?

i understand the 1st paragraph but the 2nd paragraph has me lost!!

how do you supply the relay with a negative feed?

Basically find a negative somewhere (brown wire) or even from the chassis and connect it to 1/L on the relay. With the ignition on that should make the rear wiper operate as it will switch the relay. That will then confirm you either have a problem with the switch itself or a problem with the green/white wire between the switch and the relay.

Does that make any more sense?

By the way you need to look at the circuit diagram for the front windscreen wiper in conjunction with the one for the rear as the switch is only shown in the diagram for the front ::)

The switch is E22 and the rear wiper output is the green and white wire: L

If you look at the switch its connecting L to earth ;)

Tou can tie the 2 diagram together by looking at the wire that appears to go no-where: t

Why they couldn't put it all one page like the old diagrams I really don't know - would make life a lot easier ::)

well i put a wire into the wee pin hole on the Relay on pin L then plugged it back into the board. turned ignition on and earthed the wire. nothing happened!!

took out the board had a look at the back of it, too many wires for my likin so promptly put it back again!!

what next???
